The Berle LaPin Veterans Memorial Park Dedication

On August 19th, 2006 a dedication ceremony was held for the Berle LaPin Veterans Memorial Park which is near completion in Champion.  Well over 100 people turned out on a rainy Saturday morning to pay tribute to area veterans and longtime township supervisor Berle LaPin.  Presentation of colors, a blessing of the grounds, flag raising, taps, and the singing of "God Bless America" were performed at the park which was followed by speeches and a luncheon at the Fire Hall.  It was a memorable and emotional event highlighted by the reading of a proclamation by Governor Jennifer Granholm honoring the life of Berle LaPin and his contributions to the community of Champion.

The Champion Toilets

Champion made the national headlines in the summer and fall of 2004 with the announcement by the American Standard company that every Champion resident who desired a new "Champion" toilet would get one installed for free.

American Standard made good on their promise and late in the summer of 2004 began installing about 115 toilets in businesses and residences around town as a means of promoting their new line of "Champion" toilets.

On October 1,2004 American Standard's national spokesman, Ty Pennington, made a celebrity visit to Champion in order to promote the toilets. Ty spent the morning signing autographs, doing radio and television appearances nationwide via satellite, and visiting with the local residents.

In addition, the American Standard company gave away a $5000 bathroom make-over to one lucky Champion couple in a drawing.

New Champion Township Offices

Thanks to the kind generosity of Mr. John Jilbert of Jilbert Dairy, the Champion Township Offices have been relocated.  In January of 2005 Mr. Jilbert donated the property across the highway from the Champion-Humboldt Fire and EMS Hall to the township.  The former Champion Cafe is now known as the Champion Township Office. The telephone number is (906)339-2920 and the fax number is (906) 339-4191.

Due to the moving of the phone lines there is a change in the number for the Fire and EMS Hall.  The new number is (906)339-2921.

On behalf of Champion Township we would like to thank Mr. Jilbert for all of his kindness and generosity.
