ESB Meetings Burn Permits Service Fees Grants EMS Department Members Fire Department Members The Emergency Services Board (ESB) formed when the townships of Champion and Humboldt joined together to financially support the Champion-Humboldt Fire and EMS Departments. The ESB was established for the purpose of protecting the public health, safety and general welfare of Champion and Humboldt Townships. The agreement was further established for the purpose of: 1. Providing fire and emergency medical services within the service area. 2. Establishing and operating the Champion-Humboldt Fire and EMS Departments. 3. Obtaining fire and emergency medical service equipment for the use within the service area. 4. Promoting interest in and further development of fire protection and first aid/rescue activities within the service area. The ESB has developed an in-depth Mutual Aid agreement with Republic Township for fire protection for the middle and southern-most sections of Humboldt Township. In an emergency always call 9-1-1 and they will notify the responsible service for your area. The Emergency Services Board meets on the 1st Monday of each month at 6:30 p.m. at the Champion Township Hall. The only time that a burn permit is not necessary is when there is snow cover. At all other times: 1. Contact the Michigan DNR at 1-888-884-7154 and the Champion-Humboldt Fire Department at 339-2921. Those that reside in the central and southern portion of Humboldt Township call the Republic Township Fire Department at 376-8827. 2. Burn Permit required information: a. Name and address or Township Fire Number. b. County and township where burning will take place. c. A description of the materials to be burned. If the above steps are not followed, a ticket could be issued and you will be held responsible for ALL damages and suppression costs. Public Act 102 of 1990 amended PA 33 of 1951, MCL 41.806a, authorizes local townships to collect fees for emergency services. The act required that such charges be established by ordinances. The following ordinances have been adopted by the Champion and Humboldt Township Boards: 1. Fire Service Ordinance 2. EMS Charge Ordinance 3. Hazardous Materials Ordinance Our intent is to collect available funds for services rendered for Fire and EMS calls. EXCEPTION: There will be no billing for residential EMS calls. When available, additional revenues may be generated for services rendered from a client's insurance policy. You will not be responsible for these charges out-of-pocket. A homeowner's fire protection policy will cover charges and your rates don't go up because of a claim. This coverage is automatically included in your policy. Most auto insurance policies also have this coverage if the client has medical coverage included in their auto insurance. If you have this coverage, an EMS claim will be filed. The Fire and EMS Departments were successful in securing the following grants this past fiscal year: The Fire Department was awarded $12,500 for five 800 MHz portable radios. The EMS Department was awarded $3,000 for one 800 MHz portable radio and hazardous material protection for two individuals. Champion-Humboldt EMS Department Members
